The Course

Bentley Golf Club is a long established, well presented, Golf Club originally opened in 1972, which has, in May this year, been bought by the Members. The Club has a very good reputation in the area and in 2001 hosted the Essex County Championships. It is the proposed venue for the Essex Ladies County Championships in 2005.

The course was designed by Alex Swan, it is arranged in two loops of 9 holes starting and finishing at the Clubhouse.

The course is laid out over an undulating terrain that has a wealth of mature, mixed species trees with many water features. The golf course extends to 6,709 yards (par 72) from the white tees and comprises four par 3's, ten par 4's and four par 5's. There is also a practice ground, Clubhouse and Professional Shop facilities.

Hole 16 is our signature hole. This is the only blind tee shot on the course, which has an acute dogleg to the right. The golfer has two options for his shot to the green either the long carry across the lake that fully protects the green or a lay up and rely on a pitch and put to achieve his par.

Since its construction in 1972 the golf course has matured well and now offers golfers a far more established venue than the majority of local, modern, golf courses. The course offers a real challenge for the more accomplished golfer (hence its selection as host to the County Championships) whilst still being enjoyable for the less experienced player. Well presented greens, appropriately sized teeing areas, an automated irrigation system to greens and tees (refurbished in 1997 and due to be refurbished again in 2005), plus a comprehensive drainage system ensure that the course is enjoyed by members and visiting golfers throughout the year.

Moderately sized practice ground and practice putting greens are located close to the first tee/Clubhouse.
